両祖忌*

Bowing to the ancient masters
From old times,
The full moon rising up in the sky
Points to the root.
The eternal peace
And the pure mountain
Pass on the precious jewel
That shines restlessly
In this everlasting
Impermanent
World.

* Ryōsoki (Mourning of the two patriarchs): September 29th holds the celebration of the passing of the two founding patriarchs of the Soto Zen tradition in Japan, Zen Masters Eihei Dōgen (永平道元, d. 1253) and Keizan Jōkin (瑩山紹瑾, d. 1325). Dōgen`s last poem, written shortly before his death:

Fifty-four years lighting up the sky.

A quivering leap smashes a billion worlds.

Hah!

Entire body looks for nothing.

Living, I plunge into Yellow Springs

* Ryōsoki (Relebrando os dois patriarcas): No dia 29 de setembro celebra-se o falecimento dos dois patriarcas fundadores da tradição Soto Zen no Japão, os Mestres de Meditação Eihei Dōgen (永平道元, f. 1253) e Keizan Jōkin (瑩山紹瑾, f. 1325). Eis o último poema de Dōgen, escrito pouco antes de seu falecimento:

Cinquenta e quatro anos iluminando o céu.

Um salto exitante esmaga bilhões de mundos.
