Four Squared

The Moon’s smiling big tonight:

Maybe celebrating your day,

Maybe trying hard to illuminate this somber, dark night;

Or maybe just being itself,

Watching History unfold as she’s always done

Patiently and indifferently existing

Tide-locked around this pale blue dot

Tonight the world burns:

The Earth is in flames, the oceans are warming

Lives and houses are crumbling, and people are crying

While fire rains down from the Heavens.

But there is also joy. There are laughs,

A little boy running around happily and in wonder

Amazed by the beautiful new leaves and fading flowers,

Distracted by every little wonder of Nature

With shiny eyes that speak of a brilliant Future ahead,

Unaware and unspoiled by our gloomy Present.

So, today is a beautiful day;

The day of the most beautiful smile I’ve ever seen

That now shines even brighter in a new little being

In undeniable proof of Evolution,

Blessing all humankind.

May this smile (which has now become two or three)

Keep shining for many years to come,

Easing the atmosphere of anxiety and fear

Showering all around it with pure warmness

And giving us faith in the future;

A better future, where sparkling eyes will last longer

Gorgeous laughs will echo further and further away

So strongly that even the Moon will lose her pose

And, shredding her indifference,

Smile back with warmth and love.
